Peter
began writing songs while traveling with a touring band in the
early 90s. Peter was with the group Truth for two years from
1990 – 1992. It was soon after he set his sights on Nashville
where he knew he could work on his music and hone his skills as
a songwriter. Peter became a regular fixture in the studio
singing background vocals on other artist’s records. He soon was
signed to a record deal and released a solo record; the record
had moderate success in the market place. Peter began to
regularly minister in churches and colleges but also found
himself involved with Chuck Colson’s prison ministry. It was in
1991 that he began work with the national Prison Fellowship
ministry, an organization with which he still works today.
“Prison is a tremendous field that needs to be sown, watered and
fed. The harvest will yield souls for God’s kingdom. I have the
opportunity to help change someone’s destiny; to really make a
difference in the soul and life of men and women. This ministry,
that we are ultimately all called to, allows us to come face to
face with a forgotten population of hurting people. God has not
forgotten those men and women behind bars and I am grateful to
be a part of such an important ministry. I’ve looked into the
faces of hardened criminals and literally seen their shells melt
as they listened to the gospel of Jesus Christ through music and
testimony.”
Peter
believes that walls can come down through music and laughter.
“Sometimes I just want to let folks forget about their troubles
for a short while and help bring a smile to their face. When God
gave me the vision and the command to be light in the darkness,
I responded with the gifts that I had been given. I want to be a
part of what God is doing. I want to share the Gospel through
song, but I also want tell people what God is doing in my life
as I walk this road with Him. It’s all about making ourselves
available to God and His purposes, then and only then will we
see lives changed and hurting people healed.”
